VOLUNTEER PROTOCOLS
At Common Thread, volunteers play a vital role in creating safe, welcoming spaces for Utah’s youth. Because we work with vulnerable teens, all volunteers must follow trauma-informed guidelines and complete the following requirements before participating in events:
✔ Complete Common Thread’s Online Training
✔ Pass a background check
✔ Interview with a Common Thread team member
When Interacting with Teens, volunteers Must:
• Never be alone with a teen and respect personal space.
• Keep commitments and avoid making promises they cannot fulfill.
• Be aware of different needs, including pronouns, mental health, and language barriers.
• Use positive, encouraging language.
• Refrain from any physical contact without consent.
We also provide free trauma-informed training to help volunteers support our teens in a safe and effective way.
